View from a Train - Process
425 photos were taken looking out of a train window in coastal Connecticut on a summer morning. 60 train photos were selected, and each was painted in a single 90-minute session, using pencil and a limited palette of 3 watercolor paints on paper. The series was not painted in the order that the photos were taken, but were selected, one at a time, using a random number generator, instilling surprise and spontaneity into the painting process. Each painting was completed in one sitting, and once completed, the paintings were never retouched or repainted.

The series includes 60 watercolor paintings, each 3 3/4" x 4 5/8" on 5 1/4" x 8 1/2" paper. All paintings are based on photos taken from a train window on August 21, 2022, and identified by the time of day when the respective photo was taken.
